Retired U.S Air Force Staff Sergeant Veteran Dyniecia Barnes is very grateful to Home Depot Foundation for their recent funding of critical repairs to her Mableton home. After serving as a Computer Systems Operator stationed around the world, the mother of two children was honorably separated from the military in 2007 and became a Mableton resident and small business owner in Cobb County. The pandemic hit her business particularly hard, and funds have been very low for the families’ most basic needs.
“These repairs have improved my family’s quality of life,” said Dyniecia. She and her family received a much-needed new HVAC system, new windows, plumbing repairs, new outdoor hose connection, new vanity and floor in bathroom. Dynieciareported the furnace often failed in the dead of winter which left them very cold. Having to run the heaters in each room drove up the electric bill. The vulnerable windows let heat and air conditioning out and posed a huge fire safety issue since most would not open.
“This past year has been most difficult,” she said. “The leak from the bathroom toilet and faucet, plus the leak from the backyard waterspout caused the water bill to rise. The leak from the toilet caused rotting of the ceiling in the basement.
“These repairs mean the world to my family and have already made a difference in the quality of our lives and finances. I am eternally grateful to Habitat for Humanity and Home Depot. Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts.”
