Court ordered community service hours are offered at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Smyrna from Tuesday to Saturday.
Court ordered community service participants must:
- Complete a background check in our system – the cost is $19.
- Complete a minimum of 24 hours in our program.
- Provide contact information for the probation officer, lawyer, or other point of contact related to their community service requirements.
Habitat does not provide community service hours for the following charges:
- Any felony charge
- Sex crimes
- Crimes against children
- Assault and battery
- Theft, robbery, and shoplifting
- Drug-related crimes
Volunteers who have these records on their background check may be ineligible to participate.
Scheduling Requirements:
- All volunteers must be scheduled in advance. Walk-ins are not permitted.
Health, Safety, and Eligibility:
- Volunteers with preexisting conditions or current injuries may not be eligible to participate, to avoid creating or worsening a work-related injury.
- Medical card approvals are not accepted until further guidance is provided by the state.
- Expecting mothers will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Hours and Shift Expectations:
- Volunteer hours are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Half schedules or partial shifts are not permitted unless approved by management in advance.
- Volunteers may not exceed 120 total hours of service.

Returning community service volunteers are not permitted; one volunteer service period is sufficient.

Community service volunteers must provide a tentative volunteer schedule for the duration of the hours needed to complete the hours assigned.

The first volunteer shift must always be on a Saturday beginning at 10am.

Hours are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Work Responsibilities:
- Volunteers are expected to assist with loadouts and must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Tasks will be assigned based on operational needs and are not gender-specific, except where appropriate for restroom cleaning assignments.
Disciplinary Action:
- Poor conduct or performance may result in dismissal from the program and reporting to law enforcement or the judicial system.
- Volunteers may be sent home at will for basic policy violations outlined in the current waiver.
- Volunteers may be dismissed at will for basic policy violations outlined in the current waiver.
