Cost of Home

Affordable housing is one of the most pressing issues facing communities today. Local housing policies can sometimes create barriers that prevent organizations like Habitat for Humanity from building the affordable housing that so many families desperately need. By raising awareness and advocating for more supportive housing policies, we can work together to ensure that everyone has access to a safe and affordable home.

For instance, the median sales price of a home in Cobb County was $360,000 in September 2021. To qualify for an FHA loan at that price, a household would need an income of $75,276. However, in 2021, half of Cobb County households earned less than $77,932 per year. This means that many essential workers—such as teachers, police officers, firefighters, and U.S. veterans—who play vital roles in the community, are unable to afford to live in the very places they serve.

This disparity highlights the urgent need for affordable housing options in Cobb County to ensure that everyone, regardless of their profession, can afford a stable place to call home.
