Critical Home Repairs for Senior Veterans Program

We completed our first home repairs under Critical Home Repairs for Senior Veterans Program this month! NW Metro Atlanta Habitat for Humanity, in continuing partnership with The Home Depot Foundation, is working to assist senior U.S. Armed Forces Veterans who are homeowners in the Douglas, Cobb and Paulding counties with home repairs.

Critical repairs covers a wide range of projects, but must fall within at least one of the following categories: Safe, Warm, Dry and Accessible.  Examples include but are not limited to: steps, windows, doors, locks, electric, furnace, HVAC, hot water heater, roofing, siding, plumbing, ramps, ADA modifications…  So far this month, we have already repaired a leaky roof, replaced an HVAC unit and installed a new junction box.

When we completed the repairs for the first family to benefit from this project, the wife said, “This was a blessing.  We would go to church and pray because we could not afford it.  My husband is a senior veteran with a physical disability that prevents him from reaching above his head.  We had a leaky roof, electrical outlets that didn’t work, a broken HVAC and water heater, and water problems in the basement. We did not want to beg, but really needed help.  We searched on the internet for programs and found the Senior Veteran Critical Repair Program at NW Metro Atlanta Habitat for Humanity.  The people came and did a fantastic job.  They treated us with respect.  We are very grateful.”

We are looking for more veterans, age 50 or more, with income within HUD limits, who need critical repairs on their own homes.  If you or someone you know might meet these restrictionss, check out our website for full list of qualifications and an online form to request more information. https://nwmetroatlantahabitat.org/veteran-home-repair/
