Thanks to two Cobb County-based corporate sponsors—
Genuine Parts Company and United Distributors — NW Metro Atlanta Habitat for Humanity dedicated two homes to new homeowners on Old Bankhead Highway in Mableton June 1. Both houses began construction in March.
The Genuine Parts team of volunteers built the home over nine weeks for single mother, Abby Eyassu. “Giving back to our local communities is one of Genuine Parts Company’s five operating principles,” said Venitia Smith, Director of Employee & Community Relations. “When we engage our employees in volunteer opportunities, they are not only fulfilling that operating principle, but we feel it is the “right thing to do” for the communities in which we live, work and play.”
Employees from United Distributors also built for a single mother, Angela Flauta-Ricker. Flauta-Ricker engaged the help of family and friends to help her keep the house a secret from her 9-year old daughter Kiani while she helped build in order to surprise her at the dedication.
Flauta-Ricker is the daughter of an U.S. State Army veteran and works in social services. “I’m excited to be a homeowner and my daughter will be excited to have two bathrooms,” she said. “We are thankful for the support as well as the opportunity to meet great people!”
“These two families and their children’s futures were changed because of the corporate responsibility of these two wonderful companies,” said Jessica Gill, CEO, N.W. Metro Atlanta Habitat for Humanity. “A safe, reliable home provides families the structure needed to build successful futures and better communities.”
