Home Depot Foundation Awards Veteran Repair Grant

The Home Depot Foundation has again awarded the affiliate a $235,000 grant to provide critical home repairs for Veterans in Cobb, Douglas, and Paulding counties.

Because of The Home Depot Foundation’s grant in 2024, our affiliate completed 15 repairs, impacting 31 individuals with an average age of 63. The repairs included roof, porch, window, deck and driveway restorations, insulation and weather stripping, plus many safety and accessibility upgrades like wheelchair ramps, and bathroom and doorway renovations to accommodate disabled Veterans.

“For the Veterans we help, the home repairs are more than fixes or upgrades, they are crisis prevention measures,” says Kyle Huhtanen, CEO, Habitat for Humanity of NW Metro Atlanta. “The Home Depot Foundation’s commitment to honor veterans allows them to have better health and safety outcomes, maintaining their quality of life in the homes they know and love.”

These critical repairs reduce falls and 911 calls due to unsafe or inaccessible homes; improve health outcomes by ensuring more homes are free of wood rot, mold, and protection from the elements; improve community beautification by replacing old roofs, porches, railings, and siding; and improve overall mental health and wellness.
