Hello, we’re Ta’Chaka and Jalmari!
I was born and raised in Gastonia, North Carolina. I came from a background of a God-fearing and loving family. I graduated from high school, and shortly after graduating, studied Fashion & Marketing at the Art Institute of Charlotte, N.C. Later I studied cosmetology at Carolina Beauty College. I worked in a salon which inspired me to want my own full service salon that remains my long term goal. My son’s name is Jalmari, he is three years old and the best gift ever! Shortly after my son was born I went back to work, but within four months the business closed.
I worked really hard to provide for my son without family or friends here and without a home. I was blessed to be in a homeless shelter program which helped me with wonderful friends for me to start my journey. The first program ended and I found another shelter program which offered rent assistance and helped me become independent. I secured employment and have been able to provide for me and my son ever since.
I’ve been through a lot of trials, but have been able to overcome, and now finally have received the opportunity to buy my own home through Habitat for Humanity. God has really blessed me and my family. He has been keeping me strong in the toughest hours and has been a provider on a daily basis for us. I’ve gone through this journey with great aspirations believing that, “With Christ, I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” I’ve been through the struggle of having and not having, being in situations where only the strong survive. I just put our trust in the Lord first knowing that He will make a way for us.
Thank you everyone for helping me to achieve one of my dreams. I’m so excited and grateful. May God Bless you!
