DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. – Construction is underway on the first all-veteran neighborhood in the state of Georgia.

Northwest Metro Atlanta Habitat for Humanity and the Douglasville Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Veterans Place neighborhood Thursday afternoon.

Plans call for the construction of eight homes over four years. The first two homes are scheduled to be done this year.

Officials said that all home recipients have to go through a very strict program before they can move in.

Out of all the Habitat affiliates in the country, this chapter said they’re only one of two groups building a military-only neighborhood.
