Habitat homeowner Binta Dibba will be the first to tell you that homeownership transforms lives. Binta is a recent KSU honors graduate with Bachelor of Science degree in Healthcare Systems Management with a concentration in health information technology.
“I’ve always wanted to have a college degree,” said Binta. When I graduated high school back in West Africa, Gambia, my father wouldn’t let me continue my education.” Since Binta came to the U.S., she says her number one goal was to pursue her education. “After four kids and almost 20 years, I had to start all over again,” she said. She went to Chattahoochee Tech for two years where she received an associate in health science while working full-time and raising a family.
After becoming Habitat homeowner, Binta applied to Kennesaw State University and worked six more years to achieve her goal. “I can definitely say that being a Habitat homeowner helped me a lot to achieve this goal,” said Binta. “For the past two years I’ve been only working part-time so I can go to school full-time.”
Binta also says her Habitat neighbor is going to graduate with her nursing degree from KSU and that being homeowners gave them structure and a place to study. “I wanted to be a role model for my children, all the girls in the Gambia and around the world that they don’t have to give up or stop dreaming,” she said. Congratulations Binta!
