Medical Specialties Group Build First Home

DSC_8831Eight medical groups joined together to sponsor and build the first Habitat home of 2016 for NW Metro Atlanta Habitat for Humanity. Construction on the house began on Sat., Feb. 13, 2016 in Powder Springs.

The season’s first Habitat House is being funded and built by volunteer doctors, nurses and administrators from eight different local medical specialty practices and the WellStar Healthcare System. According to one of the 30 plus volunteers, there was a lot of excitement on the build site throughout the day in spite of the cold start to the day.

This new build kicked off the 30th anniversary of NW Metro Atlanta Habitat, which has built over 400 Habitat homes since 1986. It is also the first of 16 Habitat homes being built in Cobb, Paulding and Douglas Counties this year.

The home is being built for Marilyn, a native of Puerto Rico, who moved to Atlanta searching for a better quality of life after earning her Masters Degree in Business Administration from the Metropolitan University of Aguadilla.

“Having a home means so much to me,” Marilyn said. “I thank God for this opportunity and I thank all the sponsors and everyone at NW Metro Atlanta Habitat for their hard work to make homeownership a reality for me.”

The Cobb Medical Specialties Group is comprised of WellStar Healthcare System, Wellstar Pulmonary Medicine, Pinnacle Orthopedics, Quantum Radiology, Wellstar Ob/Gyn, Wellstar Surgical Services, Wellstar Cardiovascular Medicine and Georgia Anesthesiologists, P.C.

“We are very fortunate to have the dedication of these eight medical practices and their volunteers who are upholding our mission to provide affordable housing for deserving families,” says David McGinnis, CEO of NW Metro Atlanta Habitat.
