Habitat Dedicates Two New Homes

(Marietta Daily Journal, December 7, 2017)

NW Metro Atlanta Habitat for Humanity, at 1625 Spring Road in Smyrna, dedicated two homes in Marietta on Dec. 2 thanks to The Cobb Catholic Coalition for Habitat, Citi Retail Services and Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church.

The dedication was for homes on Chestnut Hill Drive in Marietta. These were the 40th and 41st homes sponsored by the Cobb Catholic Coalition.

Volunteers from six local Catholic parishes along with members of the Greek Orthodox Church worked with NW Metro Atlanta Habitat to build the homes over a nine-week period.

The dedication was the celebration of The Cobb Catholic Coalition’s 25-year commitment to building homes with Habitat in Cobb County. Founded in 1993, the coalition has contributed over 9,000 days of volunteer labor and more than $1.9 million to the Habitat mission.

This was the first build that the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church participated in. Each room in each house was blessed for the homeowners by their priest, Father Paul Lundberg. “NW Metro Atlanta Habitat is so fortunate to have the support of long-term sponsor groups like The Cobb Catholic Coalition,” said David McGinnis, president and CEO of NW Metro Atlanta Habitat. “Their impact of providing affordable housing in Cobb County has been significant and we are very thankful for their support. We are additionally excited about Holy Transfiguration joining our sponsor group for this first time.” Over the past 31 years, NW Metro Atlanta Habitat has built, renovated and repaired nearly 500 homes in Cobb County. Qualified Habitat homebuyers put in over 300 hours working on both their house and the house of another Habitat homebuyer as well as completing financial accountability classes. They pay for the homes via an interest-free, 25-year mortgage.
