Walton High School Wins State Farm Matching Grant

100_0821Walton High School’s Habitat Campus Chapter was awarded a State Farm Matching Grant for $20,000 this month. Chapter co-presidents (Chris and Tim) and vice-president (Stavan) put together Walton’s application for this grant. With input from their faculty sponsor David, they documented their organization’s past relationship with our affiliate, their ability to fundraise, involvement in advocacy, and opportunity for growth.

As this is a matching grant, chapter members must now move into high gear to raise the matching funds. They already have planned the annual Horse Plop Raffle. In addition, the chapter plans on holding a new project called Make Walton Pretty Again where students pay to paint their favorite memories at Walton on the ceiling tiles of their teachers’ classrooms. Also, the club holds donation tables at every football game and on Saturdays at the local Chik-Fil A. The Directors of Corporate Fundraising are currently finalizing the details for holding Walton Nights at local restaurants where a percentage of each check goes towards Habitat’s cause. The chapter also holds monthly service projects ranging from the annual School Supply Drive for local elementary schools to Adopt-a-Family drives for the holidays. As

The Walton Habitat Chapter has been a member of the Cobb High School Coalition for 20 years. Every year, the Cobb High School Coalition sponsors a new Habitat house. Coalition’s members typically raise funds during the fall semester and build a house in the spring semester.

Since 2007 State Farm has served as the official corporate sponsor for Habitat for Humanity International’s Youth Programs. The State Farm Matching Grant funds can only be used to build or rehabilitate a Habitat house. This sponsorship helps youth through the United States become more engaged in their communities and helps build more homes for families in need. In some cases, the campus chapter also may receive action planning sessions to help the chapters improve their capacity and become better fundraisers.

Congratulations to Walton High School’s Habitat Campus Chapter on receiving this grant. We are proud of your hard work and accomplishments.
