James Galt remembers the first Cobb County Habitat for Humanity house sponsored by Marietta First United Methodist Church. He shared with us some of the details of that build. Jerry and Betty North headed up the project for Marietta First United Methodist Church. MFUMC Pastor Charles Sineath was certain that the church would be happy to pay for the house but wondered if church members would show up to work on it. In fact, the project was a great success.
Millard Fuller came for the dedication of the house on February 14, 1988. As the founder and president of Habitat for Humanity International, Millard Fuller delivered a message that everyone should have “simple, decent and affordable housing.”
30 years later, Cobb Habitat for Humanity is now called NW Metro Atlanta Habitat for Humanity. We have built 366 houses and rehabbed 54 houses. We are on track to build another 13 houses this year. And we are still building strength, stability, self-reliance and shelter.
