Gray Ghost of the Month Clayton Dampier

Clayton DampierClayton Dampier is the second oldest active Gray Ghost at our affiliate. And by “active,” I mean very active.  He worked most build weeks this construction season.  This included Ghost Thursdays when the Ghosts fix or finish the previous week’s work as well as Build Saturdays when the general volunteers work. During the off-season, he came to the warehouse to build components such as shutters and attic boxes.

Clayton started volunteering with Habitat while he working at Graphic Packaging, a  corporate sponsor for some of our builds. A self-described construction greenhorn, he learned as he went along. When he retired eight years ago, he wanted to keep busy.  He called to find out that we were building in Paulding County.  He showed up and introduced himself to Tom Hall. Tom was happy to welcome him to the construction crew.

Clayton’s fellow Gray Ghosts are delighted to have him on board.  In addition to being willing to do anything he is asked to do, he is always positive and cheerful.  No matter what the weather or the task, he is completely unflappable.

Clayton says he is hooked on Habitat. He is inspired by the Habitat philosophy — putting faith into action and bringing people together to build homes and hope.  He enjoys the fellowship with the construction crew and volunteers. He shares, “The people are the greatest thing.”
